March 19, 2025 - Lucy has come a long way since being in her foster home!! When she first arrived she was quite shut down from a life of breeding; she was comfortable with the other dogs, but avoided human interaction as much as she could. While she's still not one to go up to strangers, she has come to love attention and affection from her foster family.

Like the little mermaid, one of Lucy's favourite things to do is to collect little trinkets and treasures from humans.

We never know if it will be an empty bottle, the bathtub plug, her human foster sister's headband, or something else completely unexpected - but we love seeing what she comes up with each day! And because they're treasures to her, she takes care of them. She will carry them around or put them next to her on her bed, but she doesn't (usually) chew on them.

She does resource guard from the other dogs a bit when it comes to her food and treasures (just a growl or bark, no snapping) but it has settled somewhat as she's realized no one will take her things.
She absolutely does not resource guard anything from people.

Lucy is mostly house trained, but will also use a pee pad. There are no issues leaving her out while we aren't home, she just naps.

At night she sleeps in our bed or in her own bed in our room.
Lucy does not like wearing a harness, but is becoming more comfortable with time. She will not walk on a leash just yet.

Lucy can usually be found hanging out with her foster brother, Bubba, who is about the same age and size she is. She would likely be fine as an only dog, but would probably prefer to have a little companion.

Notables:
Lucy had several teeth pulled, but she has healed well. She mostly eats kibble, but also likes soft food.

Lucy had severe ear infections when she came into care, which were likely there for a long time, untreated. She has been on a few rounds of drops and steroids to get it under control. We are just starting her on a chicken-free diet to see if it helps relieve her symptoms.

December 23, 2024 - Lucy is slowly settling in. She wants to be with people but is still wary. She is warming up to foster dad faster than foster mom.
She is starting to greet us when we walk in the door; she hangs back, but happy wags her tail. She is also starting to approach us when the other dogs are getting affection. You can tell she really wants it, too, but she's still unsure. Lucy likes toys, but doesn't play with them. She just likes to collect them like little treasures.

Lucy is house trained, but will also use a pee pad if available. She will sometimes cry and howl if she is alone, but does settle after a bit. No issues leaving her out while we aren't home. She sleeps in our bed, but would probably be fine in her own bed as long as she's in the room or at least close by.
She's not a fan of walking on a leash just yet.
Lucy recently had most of her teeth pulled, so she needs softer food. She prefers to eat in a separate room away from other dogs and humans. She won't usually touch her food until she's alone. She is starting to take treats from our hands, but still prefers if you set them down.
Quirks:
- Will go up and down the 3 concrete steps to get to the yard, but won't try the inside stairs. We have to carry her up and down. Also hasn't tried to jump on the couch, but did jump off once.
- Whines/cries a lot. Not sure if it's fear based or pain but it's slowly decreasing.
